Canva is my all-time favorite business tool. I’ve been using it for the entire decade it’s been around, and it has revolutionized my life. From business to personal, I literally use Canva for everything! As a versatile and user-friendly platform for beginner and experienced designers alike, it’s the perfect tool for a virtual assistant.

Here are my favorite things about Canva:

Templates

When it’s time to make a design, you don’t need to start from scratch. Canva has tons of pre-made templates to choose from. I love to use them as a starting point, then tailor them with my brand colors and spice them up with my own flare. Then, when I’m done, I can save all my templates for later use. With templates, creating branded content is a breeze.

Brand Kits

Canva’s Brand Kits are a fantastic way to organize your business assets and streamline design work. Add your brand colors, custom fonts, logos, designs, and more. I have a brand kit for each of my clients which makes designing for them easy and efficient!

Elements

Canva includes an expansive library of photos, videos, and design elements (especially for Pro members) to help you in the design process. If you’re intimidated at first, start searching through Canva’s elements and experiment. It’s super easy to add, remove, and modify these elements to your liking.

Example of using Canva's Background Remover tool

Background Remover

This feature will make you feel like a pro: the background remover. It automatically removes the background from any photo or video, allowing you to overlay an image of a person or object on top of a different background – without any hassle. This tool is impressively accurate, and I use it all the time.

Canva's resize tool

Resizing

I love how easy it is to resize a document in Canva. In a matter of minutes, I can transform a social media post into a flyer or presentation by clicking the Resize button in the top left corner. This function allows me to keep all of my elements together as I move between formats. It’s a particularly helpful feature for drafting social media graphics that fit each platform’s unique size requirements.

Collaboration

Even though I work solo much of the time, I love how easy it is to collaborate in Canva. This is such a valuable feature for small businesses. Rather than send a document back and forth for feedback, you can give access to someone to comment directly on the design as well as make their own edits. And because of Canva’s overall simplicity, any user can hop in without lengthy experience or prior knowledge.

Whether you need a static graphic, animated graphic, or even a video reel, Canva has it all. Need help creating in Canva? That’s a great task to hand off to a virtual assistant. Leave a comment and tell me what your favorite business tools are!
